EMIX PRO WRESTLING CELEBRATES TEN "THROWDOWNS" BY RAISING THE BAR AGAIN
October 11, 2014 was a milestone for Remix Pro Wrestling, its staff, wrestlers, and fans alike, as the journey reached a magic number - ten times we have brought you stellar "Throwdown for the Pound" supercards and raised an incredible amount of money for the local chapter of the Humane Society as well. Just as each "Throwdown" preceding it, our tenth installment raised the bar set by the one prior, ensuring that as amazing as this event was... the best is still yet to come.
The feature match saw Matt Sydal bring a mental awakening and spiritual enlightenment to Remix Pro, as the man who says he is "reborn" battled the face of the franchise, the man who built the brand, "Neon Ninja" and "Aerosol Assassin" Facade! It was among the most breathtaking encounters in recent memory, as both strived to top one another in an encounter that, at times, seemed to resemble a man wrestling a mirror. Respect gave way to competitive spirit and mounting tensions as time went on. Facade had dodged the Shooting Sydal Press, but the St. Louis-native wasn't as lucky when it came to Facade's Arishikage Driver. Sydal was pinned, and Facade had taken another step to avenge his loss to AJ Styles at TD9, but no one left on bad terms. Facade toasted to the efforts of Sydal, not over an alcoholic beverage, but over about a dozen cans of Surge! A fitting name to describe the frenetic pace we had just seen, and a fitting feel-good ending saluting two of the sport's absolute best athletes.
One issue that ended on a much less positive ending involved Remix Pro Champion Chance Prophet. Chance had major issues with former "Funkasaurus" Monstrous B.C. (Brodus Clay). The 365-pounder overpowered and smothered Prophet much of the way, but things went from bad to worse when The Headless Horsemen appeared and Gory, Matt Conard, Ron Mathis, and Steff Leppard absconded with the Remix Pro championship title belt! Distracted as he was, Chance pressed on, and was able to out-quicken his monstrous foe, get a few lucky shifts in momentum, and topple the largest man to enter a Remix Pro ring. There was no time to celebrate, as Chance immediately began pursuing his former charges in order to reclaim his rightful property. What won't the Horsemen stoop to to end the legacy of Chance Prophet?
Part of Gory & Conard's frustration certainly stemmed from their opportunity to become the first-ever Remix Pro Tag Team Champions earlier in the night, but not for the reason you may think. The Horsemen were indeed victorious over 4x tag team champions in other organizations, the debuting Batiri, Obariyon & Kodama, with their double team tombstone piledriver. However, apparently they didn't get the memo that the championship belts would be presented during a special ceremony at our NEXT event. The Horsemen refused to leave until they got what they wanted, prompting ringside commentator Ike Eastwood to attempt to reason with the tandem. However, Ike clearly overstepped his bounds and was unprepared for the onslaught that followed, as the Horsemen mercilessly assaulted Eastwood as well! This no doubt directly led to the thievery behind Chance Prophet's title.
Ron Mathis had a difficult night as well, in his RIOT Championship match with Johnny Gargano. As per usual, this division saw very lax rules, and it didn't take long for the dangers of such a stipulation to be evident. Minutes into the battle, Johnny Gargano was badly busted open across his forehead thanks to a particularly violent shot with a trash can lid. Undeterred, Gargano persevered, fought through the pain, and continued to battle when he could barely walk. However, Mathis was in his element, and the blood loss became too much for the man who is "All Heart" to withstand. Mathis retained the title, and perhaps more importantly, we see that the Headless Horsemen are either the legal or physical possessors of every male championship in Remix Pro Wrestling. How can this reign be stopped when they get immeasurable stronger at every event??
Women's Fury champion Sassy Steph opposed her biggest challenge as well, the imposing Amazing Kong. Also known across the world as Awesome Kong and Karma, Kong used her no-nonsense style and brutal Japanese-influenced strikes to detain her smaller foe. Steph was able to slowly figure out the formula, taking Kong down and beginning to chip away at this near immovable opposition. As Kong was propelled to the outside, she perhaps felt her dominance beginning to wane, and, clutching Steph on the outside, impeded her from getting back into the ring, resulting in an inconclusive double countout ending. Kong got the last word, however, drilling Steph with the Implant Buster before leaving her opponent lifeless. Steph may not have won this match, but she survived it, and perhaps that's the most important fact.
Title implications were also at hand when ten of the best of Remix Pro's past, present & future battled for a very rare opportunity... a future Remix Pro title shot. Names synonymous with Remix such as Aaron Draven, Juggulator, Onyx, Dirk Extreme (and even his buddy The Canadian Idol) and Viper joined perhaps the latest crop of rising stars of Bulldozer, Aiden Veil, Chris LeRusso and Payton Graham for a wild Rumble-style war. However, one name separarated himself from that pack, one man who was able to culminate a journey of pain and sacrifice. One year ago to the day "Supernatural" Zac Vincent was laying on a hospital bed as a tumor was being removed from his brain, unsure if he would ever wrestle or be able to live his life normally again. One year later, Zac Vincent stands victorious - in the ring and in life. Fully healthy, and prepared for the biggest opportunity of his career... as Zac Vincent is the new #1 Contender to the Remix Pro Title.
The most unusual confrontation of the evening saw the man straight from Maxwell Street in Chicago, IL, Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana one-on-one with Marion Fontaine in a Gentleman's Challenge. Fontaine brought a tried and true throwback fighting style, but one thing about Colt Cabana is he's not limited to just one style, and oftentimes when you show up to wrestle him and you're in a bad mood or a bit too stuck up or serious... Colt will exploit that as far as he can. Cabana had his fun, but Fontaine stayed his ground. The comedy stylings of Colt Cabana ultimately fell short to the hard-nosed pugilist, and Marion Fontaine, in what many called a mild upset, sent Colt Cabana back to Maxwell Street with a loss.
